WHAT IS FORM M IN NIGERIA?

Many first-time importers are concerned with trying to know the definitions of terms, acronyms and codes used in the industry. For the sake of these friends, I am writing articles like this one. Form M is the first official declaration of goods to government agencies. Such agencies as the central bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Customs like to know in the first instance, an estimate of what you want to import into Nigeria. This quest for information of products is one of the reasons served by the Form M system. The Form M serves another important reason that concerns every user of products. Without the Form M for instance, there wouldn’t be any reason for the importers to seek for product certification. This is because to obtain Form M, the item of import must be certified fit for its purpose by relevant regulatory agency.

Virtually all products imported into Nigeria are certified by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON). Food products and medicines fall under the supervision of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
