ANIMAL PET IMPORTATION PERMIT NIGERIA

ANIMAL PET IMPORTATION PERMIT NIGERIA? The Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services (DVPCS) is an arm of the Federal ministry of agriculture and rural development in Nigeria, and is responsible for Certification of animal and animal products for import and export trade in Nigeria. Thus, this importation requires importation permit from both the Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services (DVPCS) and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) much like the seed and grain importation into Nigeria.

ANIMAL PET IMPORTATION PERMIT NIGERIA: APPLICATION TO DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY AND PEST CONTROL SERVICES (DVPCS)

Application to the above mentioned body is still by means of paper application. The following are to be supplied in the application:

  • Animal species, name, age, sex, colour, and breed, etc.
  • country of origin and proposed date of importation
  • Embarkation or disembarkation port
  • distinguishing features of the animal or pet of interest
  • vaccination certificate for rabies for one year
  • current health certificate issued by a registered veterinary surgeon of the origin country valid for at least 2 weeks

ANIMAL PET IMPORTATION PERMIT NIGERIA: APPLICATION TO NIGERIA AGRICULTURAL QUARANTINE SERVICES (NAQS)

  • DVPCS evaluates the application request and approves or reject
  • If approved, applicant completes importation process with NAQS
  • Applicant pays the import approval fee, which depends on the animal type
  • Import approval is issued by DVPCS
  • Applicant approaches NAQS with DVPCS approval letter for import Permit request via the Federal Government of Nigeria Single Window for Trade using his Tax Identifier Number – TIN and username:

Animal products for import and export trade in Nigeria must be certified by the Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services (DVPCS) and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS). Much like the seed and grain importation into Nigeria requires importation permit from both the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS).
