WHAT IS CUSTOMS DUTY?
Firstly, Customs is an Authority or Agency of government, saddled with responsibility to monitor flow of goods across borders. Additionally, Customs collect duties and taxes for goods across borders on behalf of the government. In Nigeria, the Customs is directly an Agency of the federal ministry of finance.
Customs duty is taxes payable to Customs or Government for moving goods across international borders. The movement of goods are either for import or export reasons. In straightforward terms, the duty is required on import and export of commodities or products. The public authority utilizes this obligation to raise its incomes, shield homegrown businesses, and control development of products.
