HOW TO EXPORT GOODS FROM NIGERIA: FORM NXP

Form NXP is an acronym for Nigerian Export Proceeds Form (NXP Form). Before the year 2019, Form NXP was obtained from the bank and processed manually. However, after the year 2019, CBN discontinued the manual processing of Form NXP. I will write a separate article for what is form NXP.

NIGERIAN EXPORT SUPERVISION SCHEME (NESS)

Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) Administrative charge is 0.5% of export value for non-oil exports, and 0.15% for oil and gas exports. The Nigerian Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) Administrative charge is paid to the authorized dealer bank. Receipt of payment for NESS is used for export clearance with the Nigeria Customs Services.

PRE-SHIPMENT INSPECTION AGENCIES (PIAs); CLEAN CERTIFICATE OF INSPECTION – CCI

Exporters of non-oil goods are required to get such commodities inspected by independent Inspectors. The independent inspectors are called pre-shipment inspection agencies. Approved pre-shipment inspectors in Nigeria include Carmine Assayer Limited, Cobalt International Services, and Neroli Technologies. The exporter must be issued with Clean Certificate of Inspection (CCI) for their export to be approved.

Cobalt International Services is assigned to cover the following South Western part of Nigeria:

  • The land borders in Idiroko, Imeko, IIlara Ijoun, Ohumba, IIlashe, Ijoffin and Seme.
  • Also, it handles Tin-Can Apapa Port and Kiri-Kiri Lighter Terminal, KLT. For the North West.

Carmine Assayer Limited covers the following North Western part of Nigeria:

  • Handles land borders in Iilela Kangiwa, Kamba, DoleKainua, SabonBirni and Maigatari.
  • Equally, oversees trading activities in TuloTulo’a, Machina, Mallam Fatori, Doro Baga Wulgo, Gamboru, Sigael, Jilbe, Banki, Kirawa
  • Finally, the International Airport Kaduna, Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Neroli Technologies Limited takes care of the following regions:

  • The entire South South
  • South East.

Exporters must first, obtain a Request for Information (RFI) Form from the Inspection Agent to book for inspection. The form is to enable the inspection agent get in touch with the exporter. Therefore, the pre-inspection agent after receiving the completed form arranges inspection at goods location.

NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE – NCS

The Exporter is required to collect and fill the single goods declaration form from Nigeria Customs Service. With all the above stated conditions met, the Nigeria Customs clears goods for export.

EXPORT PROCEEDS ACCOUNT

The exporter is required by policy to ensure the export proceeds are entered into an export proceeds Account. He is to do this on or before ninety days from the date of export. The purpose of this requirement is to make proof of export proceeds. Remember I told you in the first paragraph that economy of any country is tied to its export potentials. So, the government is interested in your business as an exporter. In fact, you are much more valued than the exporting merchandiser. So,
