Standard Organization of Nigeria

STANDARDS ORGANIZATION OF NIGERIA implemented the SONCAP to give assurance to the Nigerian end-users or consumers of the quality, safety and standard of goods, and make international trade easier. Traders within the Nigerian country are to comply with this requirement from the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON). Virtually all goods except are relative few require the use of SONCAP before being cleared into the Nigerian environment. Failure to comply with the SON Conformity Assessment Program could result to penalties or at the worst-case return of imported goods back to supply country.

STANDARD ORGANIZATION OF NIGERIA: ACCREDITED AGENCIES

Majorly, the Standards Organization of Nigeria – SON, to regulate and issue the SONCAP on its behalf, accredits five companies. The reason for this arrangement is to test items, products, or consignment imported for Nigerian standard and technical regulations and even approved international or regional standards at the originating locality or supply. Since SON cannot operate everywhere in the world, it has to accredit some firms to carry out tests on its behalf. The three of those firms in use by SON are COTECNA, INTERTEK and SGS.

This article will help you know how to reach the SON agents nearest to you with ease, to enable you comply with the SONCAP arrangement. What we shall do in is to split the article into three to accommodate all three agencies (COTECNA, INTERTEK and SGS). Hence, we shall give the contacts and addresses of COTECNA in this article, and treat that of INTERTEK and SGS in subsequent articles.
